What’s up Deal Talk Nation!
I’m Abhi Golhar, the Host of Real Estate Deal Talk, a daily radio show, weekly podcast, and YouTube show discussing topics related to real estate investing and most importantly, answers to your questions.
I’ve been investing in real estate since 2002 and since then, I’ve always used a “value-added” approach to identify single family flip, buy-hold, and multi-family opportunities. Also, I work with investor groups to implement market-driven strategies that have the highest potential for success.
For me, it’s simple: I’m determined to help new and pro real estate investors learn and execute the best strategies to grow a successful real estate business.
How It All Started
My entrepreneurial career began in high school repairing and replacing computer hardware and upgrading software for my neighbors. In college, I mustered up the courage to continue my entrepreneurial journey, but was met epic failures in business and real estate investing. Since then, I’ve learned a lot, built several successful businesses from the ground up, and continue to acquire the right real estate deal.
A Quick Story
It’s 7:00pm in Ann Arbor, MI and I’m finishing evening classes when my contractor calls me. He tells me I need to drive to Detroit as soon as possible because he couldn’t finish a job on a property I was renovating and also mentions he left a Shop-Vac for me in the basement.
He’s in a hurry.
For those of you who don’t know me yet, I’m 5’5” and about 130lbs and in absolutely no shape to do hard, physical labor.
So, a Shop-Vac? Good luck.
As I pack my bag to leave Ann Arbor in my zero-wheel drive ’92 Honda Civic DX, it begins to snow. As I arrive in Detroit, I could barely see 20-feet in front of me.
It’s a blizzard.
I pull up to my rehab, rush inside, and hear the sound of running water in the basement. I go downstairs and check the water level – it’s up to my knees. In that moment, I realize I have no idea what I’m doing and I need help. So at 10:30pm, I muster up the courage to knock on doors to find a good neighbor. An hour later and a little luck, I found help.
We toiled into the night, worked as hard as we could, but came up empty-handed with a basement still full with water; we couldn’t fix the source of the leak. As the kind neighbor headed home, I watched his silhouette disappear into the blizzard, unsure of what to do next.
With the feeling of defeat and sheer panic, I wanted to sleep, but couldn’t. I didn’t have a bed, blankets, or heat. I was cold, wet, alone, scared, and a million miles from safety.
I decided this would never happen to me again.
But in the same moment, I felt a spark of excitement, knowing that I could only rise up from here.
The subsequent few weeks as a full-time investor and full-time were tough, but I pulled through and wholesaled the properties to another investor.
Real Estate Deal Talk is for those who are seeking answers about real estate investing and those who have the grit, hustle, work ethic, and insatiable hunger to push through the toughest of times in order to achieve their fullest potential.
The Problems I Wish To Solve
Problem 1: Too often I see investors get excited about the prospect of real estate investing, but ultimately, never do a deal.
Problem 2: New investors will develop the courage to do deals, but fail in analysis and execution.
Problem 3: Seasoned investors will build successful businesses, but allow themselves to become consumed by it, letting life pass by; they fail to scale.
I want to fill the real estate execution gap by partnering with real estate investors to invest in profitable single-family and multi-family opportunities and build successful businesses.
